Details: Trip to Fredericton

Dear Parent/Guardian,

As a reward for a successful term in Math 9 and ArtSmart (see reverse for details), I am taking all grade 9’s on a trip to Fredericton to tour the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, Christ Church Cathedral and the Fredericton Trail.

The schedule is as follows for Tuesday, April 19:
Depart Grand Manan 7:30am boat
Arrive Fredericton 11am
Tours 11:30am to 1:15pm (we will be in two groups)
Fredericton Trail (walking trail) 1:15 to 2:15
Depart Fredericton 3pm
Catch 5:30 Ferry to Grand Manan for 7pm pick up

• Students are to wear comfortable shoes (as there will be quite a bit of walking)
• CELL PHONES ARE NOT ALLOWED – please have your child leave it home.
• Bring in $7.00 by Friday, April 15th
• Bring a packed lunch and snacks – as we will not be going to a restaurant to eat nor is there a corner store close to the Gallery. We will not stop on route!
• The Telegraph and Gleaner newspapers may be present; please check the box below to give the newspaper permission to take your child’s photo as part of this ArtSmart project. The photo may be published.
• Your child may need money for breakfast and supper on the boat.

Students who can not comply to the rules will find themselves on the bus with a supervisor for the day. We are representing Grand Manan Community School and our pride should override inappropriate behaviour. As a bonus to students, some student artwork is presently displayed at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery. I have included photos of student artwork on my school blog.

Fredericton

Students should have their forms and $7 to me by Thursday of this week for the trip to Fredericton. All students are encouraged to come as this is a trip to showcase what we have been working on in math. Some student artwork is at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery presently!

Monday and Tuesday, April 11 and 12, students are working on Subtracting Polynomials on pages 235 (questions 8, 9, 10, 13).

Assignment of the week is page Page 235 ALL. Students should have this done ahead of time and ask questions before the unit test on Friday. The unit test is on adding and subtracting polynomials.

What a wonderful Monday - great job! Don't forget to add a little laughter to your life!

Monday, April 4th

Math 9
Today in class we discussed adding polynomials.

For example, these are the steps to follow:

1. Combine like terms in the brackets.

2. Drop the brackets.

3. Re-write the equation by placing all terms in order of degree.

4. Combine like terms with the whole equation by simplifying.

The notes we took today is a concrete example.
If you were not in class today, please get your notes.
